Workshop on National Financial Institutions Promoting Renewable Energy –
Best Practices and Future Perspectives

The Delhi International Renewable Conference hosted by Ministry of Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, is the 4th edition of global ministerial level conference on renewable energy following the previous events in Washington D.C. in 2008, Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004. Scheduled to be held from October 27th to 29th, 2010, the International Conference will offer a great platform for ministers, decision makers and policy-level thinkers to convene and address the key drivers for renewable energy production.
To further capitalize on the presence of specialists from across the globe, KfW is organizing a parallel workshop to promote/launch a platform for national funding agencies around the globe, so as to accelerate the required investments mobilization in the renewable energy sector. The workshop titled as “National Financial Institutions Promoting Renewable Energy – Best practices and future perspectives” will specially focus on the issue of scaling up investment in renewable energy.

Apart from sharing of ideas, industry trends, best practices and experiences, the half day workshop is expected to weave result oriented discussions on:

  • How to accelerate deployment of renewable energy applications through new and innovative and financing instruments
  • Launching an International Platform for National Financing Institutions by identifying ways of optimizing the interplay between public funds and private investment

The experience sharing during the session will seek answers to some fundamental questions like why renewable energy (RE) needs to be bankable, institutional challenges with reference to promotion of RE, the challenges of generating a pipeline of innovative new RE projects among many other subject specific issues of importance and concern.

The event jointly supported by United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and its Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Energy and Climate Finance at Frankfurt School in Germany, MNRE of Government of India and Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) will be attended by specialized financing institutions (development banks, other national and international financing institutions), Government institutions dealing with RE promotion, Commercial & private banks and RE project developers.
