Workshop on Wind Energy

Workshop on Wind Energy : Leap Frogging to a New Era
October 27, 2010 - 10.30 To 17.00 Hours

Introduction

There is greater awareness among the Policy Makers and the general public regarding the need to promote renewable energy sources in the context of Global warming and its effects on the generations to come.  Further, with the conventional energy sources depleting, there is an urgency to tap renewable sources to attain the goals of Energy Security and Energy Independence.

Among the renewable sources of energy, wind power has been the leading source with time tested technology and proven to be commercially viable. The last two decades has seen the wind power installed capacity growing at a rapid rate. The year 2009 alone witnessed a growth rate of 31% globally.

Yet with the demand for electricity and growing per capita consumption, we not only need to sustain the growth but rapidly grow. In order to identify the requirements, constraints and ways to eliminate the constraints to leapfrog wind energy to a new era, a parallel event has been organised.

The Sessions

The sessions would cover Policy & Regulatory, Technology and financing issues that need to be addressed so that wind power can become an integral part of mainstream energy sources.  The Policy session will focus on desirability of having a separate Renewable Energy Law, appropriate mix of policy options for the growth of wind energy sector, feed-in-tariff as a tool of scaling up wind energy, role of the Governments etc.

The Technology Session will focus on problems relating to predictability and scheduling, grid integration issues, technology options for low wind speed and low wind regimes,  and  exploitation of off-shore wind potential etc.

The financing session would deal with appropriate debt-equity mix, long term debt with low interest cost, attitude of debt providing institutions and private equity players etc.

The sessions are planned “as Panel discussion” to bring about the best from speakers as well as from enlightened audience.

The Speakers

High profile speakers of both national and international eminence connected with policy making, technology experts, financial policy makers will address the event.

Who should Attend?

All Stakeholders involved in Regulation, Policy, Financing, the manufacturers of wind turbines, CEO’s and Decision makers from all the private sectors who could invest in Wind Sector.

Organisers

The parallel event is being organised in association with the Centre for Wind Energy Technology, Chennai, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association and Indian Wind Energy Association. The event is supported by Global Wind Energy Council and the World Institute of Sustainable Energy is our Knowledge Partners.
